PAS Technologies (Hall 3 Stand B8) is here to highlight its expanding product line, global reach and repair performance.
President and CEO Robert Weiner joined the new company at its formation and immediately set about transforming a business he admits was underperforming.
With unprecedented speed, a six-month implementation of lean principles resulted in an 80 percent reduction in overdue backlog and a 58 percent cut in turnaround times. According to Weiner, it is now the “best in the business,” manufacturing compressor blades in 18 days, rather than the industry average of 22 to 25 days, and growing at an annual rate of nearly 35 percent.
Work moves from station to station in U-shaped cells and all processes are internal, he said. “Our competitors either send out work or move it across the whole complex and end up taking three weeks.”
When Weiner arrived PAS focused on repairs of cold section components, primarily for Pratt & Whitney engines. Since then the company has broadened its scope dramatically to include the repair of components for the whole Pratt & Whitney engine and added General Electric, Rolls-Royce and military engines plus industrial gas turbines to its portfolio.
Ultimately, Weiner said, PAS plans to expand into the repair and overhaul of complete engines. It has already added material management services. And it is looking to expand its presence in Europe, Asia and the U.S.
