Pilots who are wondering when a second FBO will open at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport finally have an answer. In late 2006, Liberty Ventures announced plans to build a second FBO, which will compete with the Signature Flight Support FBO, but the planned mid-2007 opening never happened. Liberty had signed a 20-year lease with the airport for eight acres on the southwest quadrant of the airport, and plans called for a 3,200-sq-ft FBO/office building and 13,000-sq-ft hangar. Now FBO and airport property developer SheltAir Aviation Services has purchased Liberty Air Ventures and begun construction of a new FBO terminal and hangar complex. SheltAir Savannah is now slated to open early in next year’s first quarter. “We look forward to serving the general aviation community in this market,” said SheltAir COO Ed Zwirn.
