Garmin G5000H

Garmin announced the new G5000H helicopter avionics suite at Heli-Expo yesterday, coinciding with Bell’s launch of its largest-ever helicopter, the 525 Relentless. The new helicopter is the launch customer for the G5000H.

The Bell 525 will feature a four-display system and incorporate Bell’s new awareness, react and control (ARC) cockpit. Demonstrations of the G5000H in a 12-inch screen configuration are available at Garmin’s Heli-Expo booth (No. 9432). G5000H displays are also available in 14-inch size.

Bell 525 'Relentless'

Today, Bell Helicopter formally launched the 525 “Relentless” super-medium twin, the largest civil helicopter in the company’s history. The helicopter is an 18,000-pound “plus” ship aimed squarely at the offshore market with a range of more than 400 nm, a speed near 150 knots and a ceiling of 20,000 feet. Offshore helicopter service provider PHI is the launch customer.

Anglo-Italian helicopter manufacturer AgustaWestland and Lease Corporation International (LCI) of Dublin, Ireland, have signed an agreement covering purchase of a fleet of AW139, AW169 and AW189 helicopters, a deal which, including options, is valued at more than $398 million.

Spun off from European aircraft broker Regourd Aviation in June 2011 to focus exclusively on helicopter sales and acquisition transactions, Paris-based Heli Asset (Booth No. 4605) is making its debut at this year’s Heli-Expo. Initially created to focus on the utility helicopter segment, Heli Asset has already brokered five deals, four involving VIP Eurocopters.

Appareo and CHC Helicopter are developing an electronic flight bag (EFB) app for the iPad. The app will help standardize CHC’s flight operations around the world, shorten accounts receivable cycles, provide more complete information for crew scheduling and maintenance and eliminate inflight paperwork. It will also provide flight crews with tools for routing, fuel planning and weight-and-balance calculations.

According to online aviation job distribution network JSfirm (Booth No. 7244), the first two quarters of this year should be a good time to find a job in the aviation industry. The Fort Worth, Texas-based company released the results of its latest Aviation Industry Hiring Trends survey here at Heli-Expo. The survey indicates that companies across the aviation spectrum hired more people than they cut last year and expect to hire additional personnel this year.

Strom Aviation has launched a staffing division to help match companies with employees. “The aviation industry is on the rebound, and hiring will become a critical issue in 2012. It actually could become very difficult for businesses to fill key positions,” said Raymond Stebler, director of operations for Strom Direct Aviation Staffing.

Dallas-based Strom Aviation is a first-time Heli-Expo exhibitor and representatives are on hand at the show (Booth No. 8447) to discuss its services.
