Bell 206B inlet filter gets OK

Aerospace Filtration Systems has received STC approval for an inlet barrier filter (IBF) for the Bell Model 206B, the company announced.

The system has flat filter assemblies and an integral bypass design, the St. Louis company said, adding that the filter can be replaced via a quick access door in 15 minutes. All the features incorporated into the Bell 407/206L3/L4 filter system are included in the 206B design.

“Rugged AFS filters have proven their worth during more than 400,000 military flight hours, including demanding high-tempo operations in Afghanistan and Iraq,” commented AFS sales and marketing manager Jay Foster. “And the system may also be used by OH-58A and OH-58C operators.”

In addition to filtering more than 99 percent of dirt and sand, Foster said AFS filter systems enhance engine performance when compared with inlet particle separators, deliver more engine temperature margin and load-carrying capacity, furnish a greater margin of safety, reduce operating and overhaul costs and lower engine operating temperatures.

“Our mission moving forward is to expand this important technology to additional platforms so that even more commercial operators can reap the benefits of high-technology filtration,” said Michael Scimone, AFS president, “and we will be announcing more newly certified commercial products in 2006.”

The 206B IBF system and other products are on display in AFS’s Booth No. 1289 here at Heli-Expo.
