One of the most technology-packed airplanes of all time recently received its brain, as it were. Rockwell Collins announced delivery of the Boeing 787’s core network cabinet, the first in a long line of components Collins is supplying for the program. The cabinet plays a key role in Boeing’s idea for an “e-enabled” airplane. Using commercial network standards, the unit will host a variety of third-party software applications, managing the onboard flow of information. In addition to the core network cabinet, Rockwell Collins has been selected by Boeing to provide the 787’s flight deck displays, flight controls, communications and surveillance systems and common data network.
