Airports within six critical areas in the mountain passes of Colorado now have automated weather observing systems (AWOS) in operation since installations started last year under a program paid for by the state legislature and the Colorado Aeronautics Board. Six more installations are to be in operation by next summer. The six systems already installed are at Corona Pass, Vail Pass (Copper Mountain), Monument Hill, Monarch Pass, La Veta Pass and Wolf Creek Pass. The six locations still awaiting AWOS installations are Glenwood Springs (Sunlight Ridge), Kremmling, Cameron Pass, Wilkerson Pass, Cottonwood Pass and Saguache.
