• The Los Angeles board of airport commissioners has authorized airport staff members to begin advertising for qualified companies to perform Part 161 noise mitigation studies for Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Van Nuys Airport (VNY). The separate studies are not expected to be completed for three to five years. Current restrictions at VNY call for a 0700Z-to-1500Z curfew on all takeoffs and landings by aircraft generating more than 74 dBA (per AC 36-3A). Proposed new measures range from instituting monetary fines for violations of noise-abatement policies to capping or phasing out all rotorcraft operations.
