Two Names Aren’t Better Than One on ASRS Forms

Pilots making submissions to NASA’s Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) should be aware that two people cannot receive immunity with a single submission. ASRS officials said they have received several reports recently that include a sentence like this: “I am submitting this report on behalf of myself and the first officer, with his permission.” According to NASA officials, only one individual whose name appears on the report identification strip is eligible for immunity against FAA certificate actions.
