A Jetstream 32 operated as Air New Zealand Link by Auckland-based Air National made an emergency landing today after a female passenger attacked the pilots with a knife and claimed to have planted two bombs. The 19-passenger airplane, on an early morning flight from Blenheim to Christchurch, landed safety at its intended destination after the pilots and another passenger disarmed the attacker when the airplane hit turbulence on approach to the airport, according to local reports.
The two pilots and one of the other seven passengers aboard suffered cuts but walked off the airplane under their own power. Police placed the attacker under arrest and charged her with hijacking and assault. Search crews found no bombs.
