Aerospace Filtration Systems (AFS) of St. Louis announced recently it received a supplemental type certificate (STC) from Transport Canada for its engine inlet barrier filter systems for the Eurocopter EC 130 B4 and AS 350 B3 helicopters with dual hydraulic systems. European (EASA) approval is in process.
Here at Heli-Expo 2009, AFS (Booth No. 3947) is showing its new IBF systems for the AgustaWestland AW139 and Bell 430 helicopters. Meanwhile, IBF kits for the AW109 Power and Grand and Bell 206LR are in the works. AFS expects soon to receive STC approvals for the AW139 and Bell 430, and similar approval for the AW109 and Bell 206LR later this year.
Said AFS president Michael Scimone, “Now is the time when our customers need products that provide a relatively quick return on investment. AFS is focusing on both new production and legacy helicopters where customer need provides a compelling business case.”
The AFS IBF system features a sealed intake plenum that replaces the inlet screens, sand filter/particle separator or alternate barrier filter. The design allows easy installation and uses the existing cowl with no lateral cowl cuts required.
