L-3 Avionics’s Trilogy electronic standby instrument received TSO approval from the FAA for use on Part 27 and Part 29 rotary-wing aircraft, according to the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based company.
The L-3 Trilogy, apparently so named because it makes the holy trinity of attitude, altitude and airspeed available to pilots when all else fails, is on display at L-3’s Heli-Expo booth (No .4829). The Trilogy offers an option to provide heading data using an external flux valve (magnetometer). The panel-mounted Trilogy integrates an air data computer and solid-state attitude sensor with circuitry to process and display the external heading input. The rotorcraft version of the indicator is calibrated from 20 to 350 knots and -1,500 to 55,000 feet and can handle roll rates up to 100 degrees per second. It will be available as original equipment on new helicopters as well as for retrofit.

Larry Riddle, vice president of business development for L-3 Avionics, noted, “Trilogy saves panel space and reduces weight for light helicopter operators. These two significant benefits combined with Trilogy’s solid-state reliability and precision make it an excellent package for this market.”
