On Tuesday, Robert Sumwalt was sworn in for his second five-year term as an NTSB board member. President Bush first appointed him to the Safety Board in August 2006 for a five-year term that concludes at the end of this month. Sumwalt was recently renominated by President Obama for a term that will end on Dec. 31, 2016. Before joining the NTSB, Sumwalt headed the aviation safety department of a major U.S. airline.
