Gore Design Completions of San Antonio, a seasoned and major player in the cabin completion and refurbishment industry, has been sold to MAZ Aviation, a Middle East aviation consulting firm based in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The sale was “a well negotiated, competitive and highly active bidding process that began last November and included several bidders,” said an attorney for the sale. Gore Design has been valued at as much as $200 million, and according to Don Richie, a partner with Richie Gueringer attorneys of San Antonio, “it was a cash sale and not at a reduced price.”He added that MAZ has long-term plans to continue operation of the center as part of MAZ Aviation holdings.
In fact, a MAZ widebody executive cabin completion job is already well under way at the Gore Design facilities and another MAZ widebody is under contract. The deal had been somewhat complicated by a legal battle involving Gore Design founders Jerry Gore and his former wife, Kathy Gore Walters. All parties concerned in that dispute have since resolved it to their mutual satisfaction, according to the attorneys, and a joint motion to dismiss that case has been filed. Both Kathy Gore Walters and Jerry Gore will remain with Gore Design as consultants.
MAZ executive Shabbir Pirmohamed has taken over as the center’s new director.
