Special ATC procedures for next month’s U.S. Open golf tournament at Southern Pines, N.C., take effect beginning June 7 for Moore County (SOP) Airport, Raleigh Executive Jetport at Sanford-Lee County (TTA) Airport, Richmond County (RCZ) Airport, Laurinburg-Maxton (MEB) Airport and Fayetteville Regional (FAY) Airport.
Procedures will be in effect from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily to maintain safety and minimize ATC delays.
A temporary control tower will also be in operation at Moore County Airport during the same hours for aircraft flying within a five-mile radius of the airport, at or below 2,500 feet. Tower frequency will be 120.075, ground control 118.350 and clearance delivery 119.25. VFR arrivals should expect lengthy delays during peak periods. Flight training at TTA, SOP, FAY, FBG, POB and HFF will not be available.
IFR arrivals to the Southern Pines-area airports, SOP, RCZ, MEB and FAY should file and expect the following routings: HVQ PSK V45 GSO SDZ (destination), AZQ GZG PSK V45 GSO SDZ (destination), VXV GZG PSK V45 GSO SDZ (destination), VUZ ATL IRQ CAE FLO SDZ (destination), MCN IRQ CAE FLO SDZ (destination), SBV ALDAN RDU LANHO FAY (destination), ISO FAY V54 RAEFO (destination), SAV FLO SDZ (destination). IFR departures should expect to file LIVIA RDU SHPRD, LIVIA RDU or FLO CHS/CAE. Crews should check Notams before departure since other ATC procedures also apply.
