Nav Canada To Supply Tower Automation Products to Italy
Nav Canada’s commercial division entered into an agreement to provide tower automation products at six ATC towers in Italy operated by air navigation service provider ENAV. Nav Canada did not disclose the value of the contract with Italian company Techno Sky, which performs engineering and maintenance support of the ENAV facilities.
NAVCANatm, Nav Canada’s air traffic management (ATM) products division, will supply an electronic flight-strip system and a situational awareness display for merged en route, terminal and ground surveillance at six airports, starting next year at Milan Malpensa International Airport. Nav Canada and Techno Sky will then install equipment at Milan Linate Airport, Leonardo da Vinci-Rome International Airport, Bergamo Orio al Serio International Airport, Ciampino-GB Pastine International Airport and Catania-Fontanarossa Airport.
“The installation of this technology will ensure our controllers have the tools required for ongoing improvements to ATM performance,” said Massimo Garbini, ENAV CEO. “We are continuing with our commitment to provide the country with the safest and most efficient air navigation services possible.”
This was the first such agreement to supply equipment to ENAV for Nav Canada, that country’s privately owned air navigation service provider. ENAV has four area control centers and 40 towers and manages 1.6 million flights per year.
