Transport Canada on Thursday released “Flight 2010,” a strategic plan for enhancing the safety levels of the country’s civil aviation sector over the next five years. Among the plan’s goals are to sustain a strong safety culture, gain the “trust and confidence” of stakeholders, align expectations of management and stakeholders and ensure compliance with regulations. “This strategic plan has been developed to articulate civil aviation’s direction from 2006 to 2010, and describe how the program will achieve results,” according to Transport Canada. The strategic plan is not an action plan or work plan, Transport Canada said. “Rather, it is a blueprint intended to offer direction. The plan will be revised as necessary to reflect changing priorities, and to achieve the most effective and efficient use of the program’s resources. Civil aviation business plans will be developed and implemented within this framework.”
