Piaggio’s Business Jet: Not If, but When

Piaggio Aero Industries, manufacturer of the Avanti turboprop twin, says it will develop a business jet. The Italian airframer is considering which of two designs to develop, but must first reach agreement with a “strategic partner” to make the project a reality. “The concept is almost frozen. It will not be another entry-level product and it will be something different, something that you cannot buy elsewhere,” Piaggio director Alberto Galassi told AIN at the company’s Genoa headquarters. Galassi said Piaggio has already evaluated several prospective partners and stressed that development will not go ahead until this is settled. Piaggio chairman Piero Ferrari confirmed the company has a jet in its future, but insisted that Piaggio will not launch the program this year, playing down expectations that October’s NBAA show in Orlando, Fla., would be the venue for the launch.
