Will GE Honda Set Up Shop in North Carolina?
North Carolina representative Cary Allred is sure enough that GE Honda Aero Engines is planning to build its new engine plant at Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport that he is publicly revealing the engine maker’s plans ahead of any formal announcement. “I was told by a high-level DOT [North Carolina Department of Transportation] executive that Honda has made a commitment to come to Burlington and Alamance County,” Allred told AIN. “And there will be a formal announcement made about the middle of the month.” Allred added that the airport is planning to spend $11 million to extend its existing 5,000-foot runway and buy land for the GE Honda plant. “If Honda is only going to create 50 new jobs,” Allred said, “I don’t know that the investment is worth it.” Honda Aircraft plans to build the HondaJet in Greensboro, N.C. A GE Honda spokesman said he could neither confirm nor deny Allred’s statement. Dan Danieley, airport manager and chair of the Burlington-Alamance Airport Authority, said Allred’s statements were "absolutely false. We have no agreement with [GE Honda], we have no commitments from them and there’s nothing there.
