Eclipse Fixes Coming; Service Center Opens Tomorrow

Eclipse Aviation will open its first factory-owned service center in Gainesville, Fla., tomorrow. The Avio NG avionics system is behind schedule, according to a June 10 Eclipse customer/investor update, but the new avionics have been installed in a flight-test 500 and powered up. Flight testing should start later this month, according to Eclipse. The company was able to replicate the pitot-tube moisture-freezing problem and expects to begin retrofits next month. The problem caused three in-flight losses of pitot pressure input on the left and right primary flight displays. DayJet pilot Don Osmondson said none of the company’s three Eclipse 500s has experienced the pitot problem. Aerodynamic and performance improvements will be incorporated starting with Eclipse S/N 39 later this month, and retrofits of earlier aircraft will begin next month. Eclipse also said that windshield and cockpit side window inspection and replacement times have been lengthened.
