JA Air Center at Chicago-area Aurora Municipal Airport placed first in AIN’s 2013 FBO Survey for the Americas, the results of which were announced yesterday. The facility earned an impressive average score of 9.5 out of a possible 10. There were more than 12,000 evaluations for FBOs in 89 countries in this year’s survey.

Among the 18 FBOs in the Americas making up the top 10 percent this year, a mere four-tenths of a percentage point separated the contenders. Five locations tied for the second highest average score of 9.4, including AirFlite (Long Beach Airport, Calif.); Fargo Jet Center (Hector International Airport, N.D.); Global Select (Sugar Land Regional Airport, Texas); Tampa International Jet Center (Tampa International Airport, Fla.); and XJet (Centennial Airport, Colo.). Banyan Air Service (Fort Lauderdale Airport, Fla.) and Wilson Air Center Memphis (Memphis International Airport, Tenn.), both with average scores of 9.3, rounded out the elite top 5 percent of FBOs.

The vast majority of AIN readers listed excellent customer service among the most important factors in FBO selection, followed by fuel pricing and passenger amenities, while “turn offs” included poor customer service, rundown or unclean facility and unprofessional customer service representatives.

Results of the AIN FBO Survey for Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa will be released next month.
