FBO Changes in the Works at Van Nuys
The FBO community at California’s Van Nuys Airport, one of the most heavily used business aviation fields in the U.S., is seeing some upheaval with the announcement this morning that Signature Flight Support parent company BBA Aviation will acquire Maguire Aviation’s two FBOs at Van Nuys for $69 million. Subject to antitrust approvals, the deal is expected to be completed by year-end.
The addition of what was previously the largest service provider on the field to Signature’s existing facility extends the company’s footprint to nearly 1.2 million sq ft of hangar, ramp, passenger terminal and office space at the airport. The purchase also includes the dedicated 10,000-sq-ft NetJets facility, which opened last year and has been operated by Maguire.
Meanwhile, Van Nuys owner Los Angeles World Airports issued a request for quotes last week for two other FBO properties at the airport. This includes one on Daily Drive that has been vacant for several years. The other, the former Pentastar FBO, is currently managed by Cutter Aviation, which has pledged a multimillion-dollar renovation of the facility if it is awarded a new lease.
