Gulfstream G280 Speeds into Dubai for Airshow
The Gulfstream G280 super-midsize on display this week at the Dubai Airshow broke a city-pair speed record en route to the event, bringing the aircraft’s records total to more than 30. Its latest record run started at 5:23 p.m. on Friday, when the aircraft departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport with Gulfstream pilots Jason Willis and Marilyn Whicker at the controls. The twinjet completed the 3,356-nm (6,215-km) flight to Al Maktoum Airport in 7 hours 34 minutes, averaging Mach 0.80.
This is the second G280 city-pair record to the Middle East this year. In March, the aircraft flew from Singapore to Abu Dhabi in 7 hours 40 minutes, also averaging Mach 0.80 for the 3,301-nm (6,113-km) flight.
Last week Gulfstream celebrated the first anniversary of the G280’s entry into service and said that it has delivered approximately 20 of the jets so far. Gulfstream announced the program in October 2008 and the jet first flight a year later. Gulfstream delivered the first G280 on November 14 last year.
