Business aircraft financing and leasing has continued to be a “much more challenged marketplace,” according to Bank of America Merrill Lynch managing director and head of global corporate aircraft finance Michael Amalfitano, who will be moderating a panel on this topic at the upcoming NBAA Aircraft Registration, Finance and Legal Conference. The event will be held in St. Petersburg, Fla., on February 6 and 7.

He said the panel of business aircraft lenders will discuss the effects steadily eroding prices and aircraft age have had on underwriting standards, as well as how new banking regulations such as Dodd-Frank have changed the aircraft financing landscape.

Also at the conference, attorney Frank Polk of McAfee & Taft will moderate a panel on the FAA’s new policy on non-citizen trust registrations. He told AIN that while these new rules went into effect more smoothly than expected, there are still some gray areas that the FAA needs to address. “We’re hoping to get the FAA to take positions on a few things at the conference,” Polk noted.

In the wake of the Avantair bankruptcy, attorney Eileen Gleimer of Crowell & Moring and other panelists will discuss how this fractional aircraft program shutdown affects both shareowners and the aircraft market.
