Bizjets Bolster Bombardier’s Deliveries and Orders

Bombardier Aerospace’s business jet division accounted for the bulk of net orders and deliveries last year at the company, according to full-year 2013 results released today. The company delivered 238 aircraft (180 business jets and 58 airliners) last year, up from 233 (179 business jets and 54 airliners) in 2012, boosting revenues by 11 percent, to $18.2 billion, and profits by $87 million, to $893 million. It expects to deliver 280 aircraft–200 business jets and 80 airliners–this year.

The 180 business jets delivered by Bombardier Business Aircraft last year consisted of 29 Learjets, 89 Challengers and 62 Globals, compared with 39 Learjets, 86 Challengers and 54 Globals in 2012. Book-to-bill at this division came in at 1.7:1 for the year, slightly below the 1.9:1 ratio it garnered in 2012.

Meanwhile, the company logged net orders for 388 aircraft (305 business jets and 83 airliners), for a book-to-bill ratio of 1.6:1. It ended the year with a record backlog of $69.7 billion, compared with $64.9 billion as of Dec. 31, 2012.

Order backlog in months of production for its in-production business jets is 19 months for Learjets, above the six- to eight-month target range; 29 months for Challengers, above the 15- to 18-month target; and 31 months for Globals, just above the 24- to 30-month desired range.
