More Co. TBO Extension OK’d for P&WC PT6A-60s

Minden, Nev.-based Maintenance On Reliable Engines (More Co.) received approval from the FAA for its instructions for continued airworthiness to extend the time between overhaul (TBO) for seven Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A engine models. More Co. is the holder of eight FAA STCs for TBO extension programs on PT6As ranging from the -11 through -45R and -110 through -135A. These eight STCs are used on about 1,570 engines, according to the company, which estimates that its TBO extensions have saved owners of those engines more than $200 million in overhaul costs since the More program began in 1993. The new engines covered by the instructions are PT6A-60A, -60AG, -61, -65AG, -65AR, -65B and -65R. More is also considering developing TBO extensions for other PT6A-60-series models, depending on market demand. The More program costs $10,000 per engine and more than doubles P&WC TBOs. Operators must conduct required periodic hot-section borescope inspections as well as inspections of the compressor and exhaust duct areas, periodic powerplant adjustment test, oil analysis, oil-filter debris analysis, vibration analysis and preventive maintenance.
