AMAC Open for Business in New Hangars
AMAC Aerospace, launched in July last year, is ready for business in the first of two new hangars at EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, Switzerland. According to CEO Heinz Köhli, the start-up maintenance, refurbishment and completion center officially opened its doors yesterday but had already begun work on its first product, an Airbus A320 executive interior for a Middle East client. The initial phase of construction includes a 43,000-sq-ft double hangar as well as workshops and offices totaling an additional 10,000 sq ft. The second phase of construction will be completed in mid-2009 and features an 86,100-sq-ft widebody hangar as well as more shops and offices. More than 100 employees are at work and AMAC expects to employ more than 250 by the end of next year. AMAC was founded by Köhli, with partners Kadri Muhiddin, Bernd Schramm and Mauro Grossi. Collectively, the four men have a total of more than 90 years of experience in the aviation industry, ranging from heavy maintenance and overhaul to completion and refurbishment, to finance and organization.
