Midcoast Aviation announced last week it will take over the operations of sister company Savannah Air Center. Both facilities, along with Jet Aviation and Gulfstream Aerospace, are part of General Dynamics’ aerospace stable. Midcoast and Savannah Air Center perform major maintenance, repair and overhaul work, as well as cabin completion and refurbishment. Focus over the past couple of years at the East Cahokia, Ill.-based center has been on the upgrade and expansion of operations and facilities at its St. Louis Downtown Airport, said Midcoast president Donald Petersen. This has resulted in “gains in cycle time and quality, [enabling] a consolidation of our talents into a single center of excellence, while actually increasing our overall throughput capacity.” Work currently under way at Savannah Air Center will be completed there. Savannah Air Center employees may apply for job openings at Midcoast, Jet Aviation or Gulfstream Aerospace. A job fair is being planned for those who do not wish to move elsewhere within the GD aerospace stable. Midcoast has 655,379 sq ft of hangar and production space, including two new single-aisle completion and refurbishment hangars.
