Summit Aviation of Middletown, Del., recently dedicated a new 78,000-sq-ft expansion that includes a 37,400-sq-ft hangar, 9,200-sq-ft paint facility, two cold storage units and an additional 11,400 sq ft of support and office space. It joins an existing 160,000-sq-ft facility located on the MRO’s 550-acre compound. The new hangar is designed to work on the CH-47 and V-22. “It is large enough to accommodate three V-22s at the same time,” Robert Fitzpatrick, the MRO’s president, told AIN. The new paint facility is set up to do stripping and painting simultaneously on two CH-47s or one V-22 and is large enough to accommodate a GIII. According to Fitzpatrick, the company has also added 25 additional technical personnel. “We’re already full with two King Airs, a CH-47 and a V-22. Our business has grown by about 30 percent over last year,” he said. Summit Aviation works on Bell, Eurocopter, Sikorsky, Boeing and MD helicopters as well as on PC-12s, Beech King Airs, Beechjets and other light jets. The company also provides maintenance on Pratt & Whitney and Turbomeca engines, among others.
