GE Aviation will oversee the design and construction of Emirate’s new engine overhaul shop to be built in Dubai. The 226,000-sq-ft facility will be located adjacent to Emirates’ existing test cell facility and will cost an estimated $120 million. “GE Aviation will provide a variety of training to Emirates, including module and piece part repair training along with training on the facility’s new equipment,” Tim Meyers, GE Aviation’s customer technical training leader, told AIN. “The training will occur at the Emirates’ new facility and the GE Technology and Learning Center located at the Qatar Science & Technology Park in Qatar’s Education City in Doha.” Construction of the new engine overhaul shop will begin in next year’s first quarter, and the facility is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2014. The shop will be able to perform 300 engine repairs per year on the GE90 and GP7000 that power the Boeing 777 and Airbus A380, respectively.
