An unnamed Greek aircraft maintenance engineer received a 10-year prison sentence this week from an Athens court for allegedly not resetting a cockpit switch following maintenance work on a Helios Airways Boeing 737‐300 done in 2005.

The aircraft later crashed into a mountain near Athens after its oxygen supply failed and the pilots and most of the passengers had become unconscious. Holland-based Aircraft Engineers International refuted the sentence, claiming there was no evidence proving the mechanic in any way contributed to the accident.
