Dublin Airspace Updates Enhance Safety and Efficiency

The new Point Merge ATC procedure system recently incorporated into the Dublin ATC airspace reorganization in Ireland uses continuous-descent arced approaches to reduce fuel burn and increase air traffic predictability for controllers. Designed to eliminate antiquated ATC racetrack holding patterns that increased controller workload, the new arcs are equidistant from the end of the runway. Additionally, a new air route for traffic departing from Dublin will help reduce congestion, particularly during the busy morning period.
