Early last month the San Diego Regional Airport Authority board voted seven to two to put to a county-wide vote this November whether to obtain land for a new civil airport at MCAS Miramar. The Strategic Planning Commission looked over many possible sites and finally chose a 3,000-acre tract at Miramar as the best option for serving San Diego’s air-transportation needs. If voters approve, this will be one small step in the long process of building a new airport. The vote would approve obtaining the 3,000 acres by 2020, not the actual work to turn the land into a civil airport.
