The FAA revoked the pilot certificate of Hayden Sheaffer, pilot-in-command of the Cessna 150 that violated the Washington, D.C. ADIZ on May 11. The FAA found that Sheaffer did not properly prepare for the flight, lost situational awareness throughout the flight, penetrated multiple layers of restricted and prohibited airspace, didn’t respond properly to intercepting aircraft and failed to take physical control of the airplane from an inexperienced passenger (a student pilot). Sheaffer may apply for a new certificate in one year, but he has appealed the revocation to the NTSB.
