Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, which services the MU-2 fleet outside Japan, expressed its approval and cooperation with the FAA’s safety evaluation of MU-2s and has hired former NTSB investigator Greg Feith to assist the agency in its review. Following two recent MU-2 accidents in Colorado that led to a demand from Colorado lawmakers that the FAA investigate the safety of the twin turboprop, the agency said it would undertake a safety review of the MU-2. Meanwhile, on September 23, the day after Mitsubishi announced its intention to cooperate in the safety review, an MU-2 registered to cargo operator River City Aviation crashed while attempting to return to West Memphis Municipal Airport, Ark. The pilot was killed.
