Rockwell Collins has received FAA supplemental type certification and parts manufacturing authority (PMA) for its Airshow 4000 moving-map and flight-information system. The certification was completed on a Gulfstream 400. Airshow 4000 is capable of supporting various multimedia applications, video, audio, text and graphics, which are displayed in the aircraft cabin and flight deck. The system processes real-time flight information from the aircraft’s long-range navigation and air-data systems, and during flight it displays the appropriate maps and flight information, as well as real-time news, stock information, sports and weather.

The company simultaneously announced the introduction of BBC News programming for the system. The new service is also available to current subscribers of Rockwell Collins’ Airshow Network service. Rockwell Collins’ contract with the BBC will allow customers to choose from 16 categories of real-time international news to create their own customized profile. Categories include World, Africa, Americas, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Middle East, South Asia, UK, UK politics, business, sci-nature, technology, health, education, sport and international sport. The new BBC service joins existing programming including Bloomberg, CNN, SportsTicker, The Wall Street Journal, WSI Inflight and Intellicast weather.
