Dr. Frederick Tilton has been named the FAA’s new federal air surgeon, replacing Dr. Jon Jordan, who retired last December. Tilton had been the deputy federal air surgeon since 2000 and became acting federal air surgeon when Jordan retired.

A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, Tilton entered the Air Force in 1962 and acquired flight time as a pilot who served 11 years in the medical corps. He commanded a clinic and served as an F-15 physician/pilot technical consultant before retiring with the rank of colonel after 26 years.
