Alaskan and Gulf Coast helo giant Era Aviation has entered the airline age with its recent signing of a five-year contract for use of Airline Automation Inc.’s (AAI) Internet booking engine and related services–in other words a complete airline-style carrier reservation system. Now Era will be able to accept bookings via its Web site,, without incurring additional GDS booking charges. AAI will also provide automated e-ticketing capability and issue ticket confirmations to Era’s passengers via e-mail. Further, AAI will provide Era with various custom reports and other custom applications. Era sources say the new automated system is made necessary by the sheer sprawl of Era’s far-flung operations; in Anchorage, Alaska; Reno, Nev.; Lake Charles, La.; and the Gulf Coast.
