The aviation scene is improving at Lakefront Airport in New Orleans, with renovation of the famous terminal building under way, construction of a new Odyssey Aviation FBO in its early stages and a grand opening on May 28 for Flightline First’s newly renovated FBO. The $1.5 million job included a complete refurbishment of Flightline First’s art deco-style building. The FBO offers services such as fuel, charter and helicopter flights, crew cars, rental cars, conference facilities, pilot lounges and hangar space. During the grand opening, Friends of the New Orleans Lakefront Airport announced the formation of a nonprofit corporation to raise funds to restore the famous Fountain of the Four Winds sculpture designed by Enrique Alfarez. The fountain, terminal building and most of the airport structures were heavily damaged during Hurricane Katrina.
