After signing a contract to complete a Boeing 747-8, Basel, Switzerland-based MRO and completion and refurbishment center Amac Aerospace has also inked a deal to build an 88,000-sq-ft hangar capable of handling larger airplanes.

It will be Amac’s third hangar and, like its second, will be capable of accommodating a 747-8, an Airbus A330 and two single-aisle airliners for conversion to executive use. The expansion will increase Amac employment by an expected 150 jobs over the next 12 months, bringing the total workforce to approximately 250.

The new 747-8, destined for a Middle East customer, is expected to arrive in Basel in July this year and completion is scheduled for 2014.
