Signature Flight Support has purchased Puerto Rico-based Tropical Aviation and its FBO at Isla Grande-Fernando L Rivas Dominicci Airport in downtown San Juan. Isla Grande, which has a dedicated U.S. Customs and Border Protection office, is the city’s business and general aviation airport. The new Signature location on the airport’s south side is a 3.9-acre complex including 29,000 sq ft of hangars and shade ports along with a 6,900-sq-ft executive terminal. The 24/7 facility features commercial into-plane fueling, custom catering, a pilot quiet/nap room with shower facilities, pilot lounge, flight planning facilities, computerized weather systems, and crew and rental cars.

The Orlando-based FBO chain also acquired the former Avitat FBO at Boca Raton Airport from Premier Aviation. The facility was built in 2005 and has 72,000 sq ft of hangar space along with a 17,000-sq-ft terminal building. The FBO will be open 24 hours a day and offers customers a business center with video conferencing capability, concierge services, gourmet catering, pilot rest areas with private showers, and Internet-accessible remote aircraft security surveillance. Line maintenance at the facility will be provided by Boca Aircraft maintenance, a Part 145 repair station with EASA and Bermuda authorizations.
