Malaysia Airlines’ regional subsidiary, Firefly, took delivery of the first of an order for twenty 72-seat ATR 72-600s and pressed it into service on July 12 on a route between Subang and Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Now operating 12 ATR 72-500s, the airline also holds options on another 16 of the new -600s.

Firefly’s expansion plans call for boosting flight frequencies on existing “key” domestic destinations in Subang, Penang, Kota Bahru and Jahor Bahru, as well as expanding international service to countries belonging to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), especially Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore.
