Last month, the San Jose City Council approved the 50-year ground lease agreement with Signature Flight Support for its proposed $82 million FBO at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport. The 29-acre complex will eventually be home to the service provider’s West Coast headquarters. It will be developed in conjunction with Blue City Holdings, the company that operates the aircraft of nearby Google’s executives.
Current plans call for the construction of more than 270,000 sq ft of Leed gold- certified facilities. Ground breaking is expected to occur next month, and Signature said that the complex will include an executive terminal, hangars and ramp space large enough to accommodate bizliners, as well as aircraft servicing facilities.
Despite the latest ruling, Atlantic Aviation, which currently operates the sole FBO at the airport, is maintaining its protest with the city and the airport authority against the initial bid, claiming the airport’s indecision over the permanent closure of inactive Runway 11/29 could leave it at a disadvantage against another FBO in terms of ramp space should the runway be reactivated to conform with new FAA safety requirements.
