Rockwell Collins has agreed to buy Arinc Inc. from The Carlyle Group for $1.39 billion. The purchase is subject to “regulatory approvals and other customary conditions,” according to Rockwell Collins, which announced the deal late on Sunday.

The FAA’s NextGen ATC modernization program could be stalled by substantially reduced funding. In June, the House appropriations committee released transportation funding legislation for Fiscal Year 2014 that would reduce the FAA’s capital funding account, which supports NextGen programs, to its lowest level since 2000.

At a House aviation subcommittee hearing yesterday, it was revealed that the $2.1 billion allocated for the FAA’s facilities and equipment account is 22 percent below the agency’s request and less than Congress provided in the current fiscal year.

Honeywell has entered the detailed design phase of the satellite communications (satcom) system hardware it is developing for Inmarsat’s new Global Xpress Ka-band satellite network. The company aims to secure Inmarsat network access approval for the satcom system in 2014.

By the end of June, Kelly Ortberg, currently president of Rockwell Collins, will transition into the CEO seat following the retirement of chairman and CEO Clay Jones. Ortberg, 52, has worked for Rockwell Collins (Chalet B19, Hall2b,Stand D108) for the past 26 years, including running both the commercial aviation and government businesses as COO.

Deohako’s iPad mounting system offers a solid and secure method of protecting and attaching iPads in the cockpit. But the Austin, Texas-based company’s iPad mini product needs some refinements to make it more suitable for cockpits.
