Washington MedStar is to equip its fleet of EC 135s and a BK 117 with the Sky Connect Tracker system, which will allow its operations center to monitor the location and status of its fleet anywhere, continuously and under virtually any conditions.

As the domestic RVSM implementation date of January 20 moves ever closer, hundreds of operators–particularly those flying older airplanes–still face the formidable task of obtaining the necessary FAA approvals and certifications of their crews and aircraft.
To that end, modification companies have recently introduced RVSM packages for Hawker 700s and Gulfstream IIs and IIIs.
Cabin systems supplier Intheairnet is out to prove that it can be both naughty and nice with the introduction last month of the Network and Wireless Technology Including Ethernet (Nawtie) system. The cheeky acronym takes a subtle swipe at the rival Nice (Network Integrated Cabin Equipment) system Lufthansa Technik recently introduced.
“Can you hear me now?” might soon become as familiar a refrain to airborne satcom users as it is to those earthbound customers who use Verizon. The company is now a service provider for the Iridium satcom program. The arrangement, said Iridium, means Verizon Airfone operators and their passengers will be able to make calls regardless of where the aircraft is flying.
Pilatus Aircraft in Broomfield, Colo., reports that the FAA has certified an avionics package that enables the PC-12 turboprop single to meet the RVSM requirements that will expand to North America and South America on January 20. Included in the package are two Honeywell AM-250 altimeters coupled to the altitude pre-selector and a dual pitot-static system. An RVSM system upgrade is also available for existing PC-12s.
A recently completed 120,000-plus-sq-ft facility is the new home of Jet Source Business Aviation Center at McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, Calif.
The new facility will provide a home for Jet Source’s FAA-certified Part 145 maintenance and avionics repair stations as well as an executive terminal. The FBO also provides aircraft charter, management and aircraft sales/acquisition.

As we enter the 21st century, a major challenge for the FAA will be to maintain its global preeminence in civil aviation in an era of increasing traffic volume and major technological advancements. To meet this challenge the FAA is modernizing the National Airspace System (NAS) and associated regulations. Central to this effort is the development of the NAS architecture.

Honeywell is on the verge of gaining FAA certification approval for retrofit versions of its Primus Epic integrated avionics suite. Targeting older medium and heavy business jets, Primus Epic CDS/R (control display system/retrofit) has been developed to transform steam-gauge-driven dinosaurs into state-of-the-art hot rods capable of meeting airspace operating requirements for the next decade or more.
