Honda Aircraft announced today that it selected Piedmont-Triad Airport in Greensboro, N.C., to be its world headquarters and sole production and final assembly facility for the HondaJet very light jet. Top Honda Aircraft executives at a press conference, joined by city and state officials, said that the first phase of development will be a 215,000-sq-ft facility for aircraft development, certification, engineering and service and support.

Manufacturers delivered 738 turbine airplanes in the first nine months of this year, some 26 percent more than the 585 delivered in the same period last year, according to data released today. The General Aviation Manufacturers Association reported that U.S. and non-U.S. companies shipped 228 turboprops and 510 business jets, versus 194 and 391, respectively, last year.
Following a nearly 20-year development program marked by financial and management challenges, technical issues and a fatal crash in 2003, San Antonio-based Sino Swearingen yesterday received type certification for the SJ30-2. The TC approves the new twin-engine light business jet for day, night, VFR, IFR, single-pilot and "full performance envelope" operations.
Look for a new twin-engine very light jet to be unveiled at the NBAA Convention next week in Orlando, Fla. Start-up Spectrum Aeronautical, based in Encinitas, Calif., and led by industry veteran–and father of the Beech Starship–Linden Blue, has scheduled an announcement at its exhibit booth on November 8. Its product is the Model 33, a twin-engine jet with composite construction. N322LA is the registration assigned to S/N 0001.
After receiving limited type certification of the Ae270 single-engine turboprop from the Czech Civil Aviation Authority in December, Czech-Slovak private-equity group Penta Holding acquired 100 percent of the shares of Ae270 manufacturer Aero Vodochody. The transaction was completed on January 4, and Aero Vodochody retained its 50-percent ownership of the shares of Ibis Aerospace, a joint venture with Taiwan’s AIDC.
Boeing Business Jets selected Flightdocs of Babylon, N.Y., as a factory-authorized maintenance tracking service for BBJ operators. Flightdocs will be offered to all new BBJ operators with the delivery of their aircraft. Rick Heine, president of Flightdocs, said, “We have worked closely with Boeing to provide outstanding maintenance tracking tools for the Boeing Business Jet.
The UK Department for Transport is expected to decide early next year whether it will proceed with plans to restrict the amount of time foreign-registered aircraft can be based in Britain. A comment period on the proposal closed October 28. The proposal would limit the amount of time foreign-registered aircraft can be effectively based in the UK to 90 days in any 12-month period.
Changes to the Dassault Falcon 7X, now in flight test, could increase its range to as much as 6,000 nm at Mach 0.80, Dassault Aviation said today. The current guaranteed range of the 7X is 5,700 nm, but Dassault is currently evaluating several range-boosting enhancements, including Dassault-designed winglets.
Not satisfied to rest on its laurels of introducing 25 new or derivative Citations in the last 10 years, Cessna used the NBAA venue to introduce its 26th model, the Encore+. Scheduled for certification by the end of 2006 to enable initial deliveries in February 2007, the Encore+ introduces several improvements over the Encore.
Beginning next January, Raytheon is scheduled to start delivering the winglet-equipped Hawker 850XP, successor to the Hawker 800XPi. Besides what Raytheon Aircraft calls "ramp appeal" the three-foot high winglets will, according to the company, improve airspeed and climb, as well as increase range by 4 percent, or 100 nm.
