On the heels of the termination of a training contract with United Airlines (a mutual agreement the companies said), Eclipse Aviation said it is “currently in negotiations” with a new training partner for the Eclipse 500 very light twinjet. Eclipse said the provider has a “deep knowledge” of general aviation and Part 135 training requirements and expects to announce the provider “within the next few weeks.” In the short term, Eclipse said United in Denver will still administer flight skills assessments to customers. Many customers also are completing hypoxia training in a simulator and upset recovery training in an Aero Vodochody L-39. The company has also started building its 41,585-sq-ft permanent training facility at Double Eagle II Airport in Albuquerque. Eclipse said there are now nine pilots typed in the Eclipse 500–five from the FAA and four instructor pilots. An Eclipse 500 flight training device, expected to be delivered “in the next few months,” will be upgraded to a full-motion simulator this summer, according to the company.
