Though the problems Eclipse Aviation has experienced with certification and production are well known by now, other VLJ manufacturers haven’t been spared these trials. Adam Aircraft told AIN this week that despite flying its first production-conforming A700 last week, it is pushing back the planned certification date to late this year or early next year. “Trying to predict the date of type certification is hard,” said founder and CEO Rick Adam. Meanwhile, Comp Air president Ron Lueck, who flew the company’s turboprop Comp Air 12 for the first time last week, confirmed that it has all but scrapped the Comp Jet, which has been grounded for more than a year with maintenance issues. The company is also seeking $150 million in funding over the next three years to certify the Comp Air 12.
