On Friday, Sentient Jet Holdings completed its acquisition of Van Nuys, Calif.-based charter/management firm The Air Group. The purchase of the Southern California business occurred before Sentient finalized its acquisition of TAG Aviation USA, which is said to be imminent. Once the TAG Aviation USA deal is completed, Sentient will have about 300 aircraft under management, including the more than 20 that came with the purchase of The Air Group. Most of the owners of the more than 70 aircraft that were managed by TAG Aviation USA have chosen to have their aircraft managed by one of Sentient’s subsidiary charter/management companies. While the TAG purchase includes all the assets of TAG subsidiary AMI Jet Charter, it does not include AMI’s charter certificate, as that was revoked by the FAA last October. The purchase of The Air Group expands Sentient’s coverage in Southern California, complementing the company’s Sunset Aviation division, which Sentient purchased last August. Sentient still plans to merge all of its subsidiaries’ charter operating certificates into one national Part 135 certificate, but until then the companies will be operated separately.
