Cessna Aircraft today announced it has received the green light from parent company Textron for development of a large-cabin, intercontinental aircraft that would expand the upper end of the Citation business jet line. The Wichita manufacturer unveiled a mockup of the large-cabin concept twinjet at the 2006 NBAA Convention, and in September at NBAA 2007 Cessna chairman, president and CEO Jack Pelton told AIN he was confident the LCC would be launched in the first quarter. “I’m ecstatic to announce we are extending the Citation line upward and grateful for the patience of the customers who have urged Cessna to add a large-cabin Citation, including many who are planning to move up from their existing Citation business jets,” said Pelton. “We have invested a great deal of time in evaluating this concept…and we’re confident our efforts will result in an aircraft that is right for the marketplace.” During an investor call this morning, Textron chairman, president and CEO Lewis Campbell said the company “expects to sell hundreds” of the large-cabin Citations. Specifications and performance data, as well as the name of the new Citation, will be announced at a press conference in Washington, D.C., on February 6.
