Bend, Ore.-based Stratos Aircraft yesterday received the first deposit for its new single-engine Stratos 714 very light jet. Cascade Air Charter, also based in Bend, became the first buyer to put down a fully refundable, escrowed deposit on the $2 million four-seat jet. “The 714 is an impressive aircraft and is like no other on the market today,” said Cascade Air Charter owner Verson Pandian. “The need for speed, performance and value drew me to Stratos and knowing that I am not at risk with my deposit made me feel [more comfortable]. I plan to use the 714 in my Part 135 charter business.” The Williams FJ44-3AP-powered Stratos 714, which was unveiled last year, is a clean-sheet carbon composite design with a planned cruise speed of more than 400 knots and an NBAA IFR range in excess of 1,500 nm with four people. Meanwhile, Stratos will be displaying a full-scale mockup of its VLJ at Booth No. 3905 at the NBAA Convention next week in Orlando, Fla. First flight of the Model 714 is planned for the fourth quarter of next year, with certification and first deliveries expected to follow in late 2012.
