Sikorsky Aircraft has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mexican helicopter service provider Aeroservicios Especializados (ASESA) to jointly explore assembly and service opportunities in support of Black Hawk helicopters.
“Mexico represents a large and growing market. Growth in Mexico and across Latin America is projected to increase over the next five to ten years. The fleet of Black Hawk helicopters in Mexico has grown from six to 21 over the last few years. As a result, Sikorsky is taking steps to enhance our regional support. Although we have no plans to move any existing production or capacity to Mexico, we are always ready to consider new regional production should the business volume justify it,” Anthony Moreland, Sikorsky’s Latin America regional executive, told AIN.
The Mexican Air Force, the Mexican Navy and Federal Police currently operate 21 UH-60L and UH-60M Black Hawks acquired since the mid-1990s. Fifteen of those aircraft have been acquired since 2007. Sikorsky expects the Federal Police to take delivery of another two UH-60M Black Hawks early this year.
